What is Isotex?

Isotex is waterproof, windproof and breathable. It's our main form of waterproof protection applied to our waterproof jackets, waterproof trousers and walking footwear. Being a high performing treatment, Isotex keeps the water out, whilst the hydrophilic breathability system allows any trapped moisture vapour on the inside to escape. Isotex begins at a minimum hydrostatic head rating of 3000mm and is available in varying grades of increased protection displayed below:

As you can see, Regatta fabrics can reach a hydrostatic head rating of up to 20,000mm, which equates to a 20 metre high column of water.

It's worth noting that Isotex fabrics aren't the sole source of waterproof protection applied to our garments, it's designed to work in combination with other important features such as a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment and taped seams to help fend off as much rain as possible.

All Regatta Isotex garments are guaranteed to be windproof, waterproof and breathable for 3 years. Given that you choose the correct garment for your activity and it is properly maintained, you should expect to enjoy your jacket long after its guarantee has expired. For leather based Isotex products such as walking boots, we recommend maintaining them with our specialized leather cream.

Isotex vs Hydrafort product comparison

Hydrafort VS Isotex

Hydrafort is both waterproof and windproof. It performs similarly to Isotex, however it isn't breathable nor is it available in as many protective tiers. It aims to provide reliable protection from the elements whilst reducing the production of body heat, whereas Isotex is designed to keep you dry and comfortable outdoors whilst allowing moisture vapour to escape.

Cleaning Your Isotex Garments

Each garment is different, so you should always consult the product label when washing your Isotex products. However, we recommend that you use pure soap such as Regatta non-detergent Cleaner when washing any Regatta waterproof garments. You should also avoid the use of fabric conditioners and biological washing powders, as any lingering residue can affect the overall performance of the garment, such as de-activating the water repellent finish or causing issues with its breathability.

After the first few washes, you'll typically have to re-proof your waterproof garments in order to maintain their technical performance. In your local store, you'll be able to pick up one of our Regatta reproofing products - either our Wash-in Reproofer or spray-on Reproofer which you can use to treat your waterproof garments.
