Harnessing the Power of Nature

In recent months, there’s no denying that we have all probably spent a lot more time outdoors than we normally would. Instead of staying cooped up indoors, many of us have headed outside for a change of scenery and some much needed fresh air. In the UK, we’re extremely lucky to have an abundance of greenery right on our doorsteps, from local parks and woodlands, to rolling countryside and so much in between.

Whether you head outdoors for a leisurely stroll or intense hike in your walking boots, there’s no denying the physical benefits of getting your body moving. Aside from keeping you fit, healthy and active, being in and around nature can have a positive impact on your mental health too, so it’s important that you make an effort to get outside regularly.

At Regatta, our Harnessing the Power of Nature campaign aims to help you discover new and exciting (and sometimes utterly crazy) activities that you and your loved ones can try together - some of which you can even do from your own back garden, while others give you the perfect excuse to venture further afield.

For a sneak peek at some of the activities that feature in our campaign and how they can have a positive impact on both your mind and body, keep reading…

Go wild

If you’re stepping into nature, it’s only right to go wild, right? You could try your hand at some foraging in your local woodlands to see what delicious, fresh food you can discover. If you’re lucky, you might even find something that you can serve up at the dinner table that evening. Not only is it fun finding your own tasty treats, foraging is a lot more fun than pacing the supermarket aisles, giving you a much deserved break from your busy, everyday life.

To step things up a notch, why not take a dip and go for a swim in the wild? Aside from keeping you fit and healthy, it’s thought that the cool water can exfoliate the skin and help flush out impurities, leaving you with a clear complexion - and not to mention feeling a little cold!

Reconnecting with Mother Nature

Getting outside isn’t just good news for you physically, but it can also work wonders on your mental health too. Mother Nature has so much to offer, and just simply ‘being’ in the great outdoors can be the pick me up you didn’t even know you needed.

There are a range of interesting ways you can embrace nature to reconnect with the world around you and, most importantly, yourself. Why not have a go at forest bathing, for example? This Japanese phenomenon is believed to reduce stress and help re-balance the mind - all you need to do is really take in what’s around you. For a sense of calmness and to get those feel-good hormones flowing, you could hug a tree. Not quite convinced? Give it a go and see for yourself.

From day to night

Nature has so much to offer during the daytime - but it really comes alive at night. Once the sun has gone down, turn your eyes to the sky and watch the shimmering atmosphere above with a spot of stargazing. You might even see a shooting star - but what will you wish for? For something with a little more meaning, you could even attend a full moon gathering and manifest your thoughts and feelings into the universe.
